But the truth was, I wasn’t sure about whether I wanted to be in school that long–however, I loved what I was studying. On the one hand, philosophy can be about asking questions that have to do with the broadest possible questions we might ask about ourselves: What is life? Why are we here? Is there a god? How do we know how to make decisions about right and wrong?

Philosophy can also be a way to try and think about questions that might otherwise not be asked. Whatever the case, it most certainly helps students how to think critically–and this is an invaluable skill. Some philosophy students eventually go into law, since they have been trained to think critically about important issues that require sound judgment. Like students in other disciplines who have studied in the liberal arts, some end up going into education afterwards, like myself.

My own road has been long and full of twists and turns, and now, after teaching middle school and high school, I work as a project manager for an educational publisher, developing courses for distance education students. Many of the skills that I bring to my present job are a direct result of my training in philosophy. And I remain extremely interested in educational philosophy and educational theory.

Si les élèves ont une question, ils peuvent l’envoyer à questionsbrodeur@gmail.com. Une fois que la question est envoyée, je vais l’inclure sur ce blog.

Les parents qui aimeraient pouvoir répondre aux questions des élèves peuvent aussi m’envoyer un message comme quoi ils voudraient être avertis à chaque fois qu’un élève affiche une question. Je vais créer un groupe dans mon compte Gmail avec les addresses de tous les parents participants. À chaque fois qu’une question est affichée par un élève, je vais envoyer un courriel aux parents. Si’ils veulent répondre à la question, ils peuvent ajouter un commentaire sur le site.
